Sometimes in life, the unexpected occurs.
I am a single parent and I do not have family to help me financially or with my son. I have not lost my passion, and I know that I have to continue my education and that failure is not an option. I believe success is a reflection of opportunities available. Once I began attending Pasadena City College, I quickly enrolled in prerequisite courses for the Registered Nursing Program, I have been elated by the many opportunities available at Pasadena City College. In the summer of 2016, I completed the Certified Nursing Assistant program and was very excited to get my first patient-care experience.
The CalWORKs program at Pasadena City College is extremely helpful. They excel at helping me integrate parenting with being a student who receives government assistance
CalWORKs has helped me attain a job on campus, eliminating the financial stress I would usually face during the semester. It is helpful with paying bills and providing for my child. These resources alone have helped me become a better scholar and mother to my son.
I aspire to be a Family Nurse Practitioner and build up healthier communities, schools and the entire nation. Upon completion of the Registered Nursing program at Pasadena City College, I plan to transfer to a four-year university. Becoming a nurse will help me become financially stable. Ultimately, my goal is to inspire as many people as I can and to better the quality of healthcare for everyone.
